WLC: Freddy Guevara, Venezuela

This series, created in close collaboration with the World Liberty Congress, brings to life the powerful stories of activists from 52 nations living under oppressive regimes.

Freddy Guevara, former deputy of Venezuela’s National Assembly, states that Maduro’s government does not allow free elections for the people. As a result, citizens and non-governmental organizations organized an independent electoral process, which helped undermine Maduro’s legitimacy on the global stage.

Despite the risks, millions of people participated in this process. Guevara also criticizes the lack of a unified strategy among the world’s democracies to counter the alliance of China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, and the United States against democracy.
